US: Time-Lapse Shows Heavy Snow Blanketing Ohio State University’s South Oval

Time-lapse footage shows snow accumulating over a 24-hour period on Sunday, January 25, at the South Oval on the Ohio State University campus. A major winter storm swept across the U.S., bringing widespread heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain. The storm has caused seven deaths and massive power outages affecting hundreds of thousands of people.

Massive earthquakes hit 16 times in 7,000 years

Heart from brain-dead donor arrives in Osaka

Doctors arrive at Osaka airport by helicopter, carrying an icebox containing a heart removed from a brain-dead donor in Kochi, western Japan, on Feb. 28. The heart was later transplanted into a patient at Osaka University Hospital, marking Japan's first heart transplant since a law permitting such operations took effect in October 1997.

Equipment used in experiments at Kochi University of Technology

Professor Tetsuya Yamamoto and his colleagues at Kochi University of Technology and the Technical Research Institute of Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. have developed a technology that can change the characteristics and add functions to oxide semiconductors in the same equipment after stabilizing them using negative oxygen ions in the deposition process. The process is a highly efficient way to create negative ions of oxygen in a plasma thin film deposition system and attract them to the substrate side by applying a voltage. Prof. Yamamoto is also scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on this theme at an international conference on film formation technology hosted by a German film formation equipment manufacturer in March 2008.
